Come with us on our Eastern Puerto Rico (PR) and St. Croix Itinerary and see what the Caribbean has to offer, all without leaving American waters.

You will join the Nekton Rorqual as it departs from Fajardo, PR and travel to Vieques or "Isla Nena", Puerto Rico's little sister island. Vieques is a sleepy island just 7 miles east of the mainland of Puerto Rico. Christopher Columbus first sighted Vieques in 1493 and since then it has remained a jewel of these tropical waters. Over the years it has been the heated center stage between the US Navy and island residents. In 2003 the US Navy relinquished all the lands to the Fish and Wildlife Administration.

Because the US Navy controlled most of the island until recently, most of the land is unexplored as well as the waters. The majority of reefs and dive sites have never been seen by others and the island has some of the last remaining "virgin reefs"in the Caribbean. While diving Vieques you will experience a forest of massive sea fans, giant sea whip plumes, and a plethora of dense soft corals.

Some of the best diving in the USVI can be found in St. Croix. The North Shore is home to "The Wall" which runs parallel along the island for about 7 miles. The North Shore has a very diverse underwater environment including classic spur and groove reefs, beautiful coral gardens, and spectacular walls that plummet to depths of 3,200 feet.

THE THUNDERFISH WILL NOW BE DEPARTING OUT OF THE MYSTIC RIVER FOR THE 2008 SEASON. WE WILL BE ABLE TO HIT SOME DIFFERENT WRECKS AS WELL HAS SAVE OUR OWN TIME AND GAS DRIVING ALL THE WAY TO RHODE ISLAND. IF YOUR INTERESTED IN THAT WRECK DIVE SIGN UP QUICK BECAUSE SPOTS ARE EXTREMELY LIMITED.

WE'RE TRYING TO PUT TOGETHER AN AGRESSIVE BOAT DIVING SCHEDULE FOR THE 2008 SEASON. ANYONE CAN SIGN UP IF YOU HAVE YOUR ADVANCED DIVER CARD IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO GET YOUR SCUBA DIVING ADVANCED CARD THEN CONTACT THE STORE AND WE CAN DO YOUR CERTIFICATION DIVES ON THESE WRECKS. DIFFICULTY LEVEL RANGES FROM NOVICE-EXPERIENCED WRECK DIVES. IF YOU DIVE OFF A BOAT YOU'LL GET BETTER OFFSHORE VISIBILITY AS WELL AS SEE SOME EXCITING SHIPWRECKS.

WE BOOKED EVERY SATURDAY THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE SUMMER! WE WANT THIS SEASON TO BE ACTION PACKED WITH EXCITING WRECK DIVES. THIS IS A 6 PACK BOAT MEANING IT HOLDS 6 DIVERS. DIVE SHOPS ARE HESITANT TO DO THIS BECAUSE WE NEED TO FILL THIS BOAT OR ELSE WE GET STUCK PAYING FOR THE EXTRA SPOTS. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO PRE-BOOK THIS SPRING TO ASSURE THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN ANYMORE.

DUTCH SPRINGS TRIP

DUTCH SPRINGS IS A DIVER'S PLAYGROUND LOCATED RIGHT IN PENNSYLVANIA. ENJOY SUCH ARTIFICIAL WRECKS AS A SUNKEN SCHOOL BUS, SIKORSKY HELICOPTER, AND AN OLD TROLLEY. THERE IS A CONVENIENCE ROPE SYSTEM LEADING TO EACH SCENIC TREASURE. ONLY ABOUT A 2.5-3 HOUR DRIVE WE'LL CARPOOL RIGHT FROM NEW ENGLAND DIVE CENTER'S PARKING LOT. THE TRIP WILL RUN 2 TIMES THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER SO DON'T MISS OUT. WE'LL LEAVE THE SHOP AT 6AM AND RETURN ABOUT 6PM

LAST YEAR'S TRIPS WENT OFF WITH A BANG AND WE COULDN'T HAVE HAD A BETTER TIME.

ANYONE IS WELCOME TO JOIN US ON OUR ANNUAL PICNICS. WE WILL TAKE OVER FORT WETHERILL THREE TIMES THIS SUMMER. WE'LL HAVE OUR TENT SET UP WITH MIKE BONINI COOKING ON THE GRILL AND YOU COULD DO ALL THE DIVES YOU WANT ALL DAY LONG. WE'LL HAVE PRIZES, CONTESTS AND RAFFLES. DIVERS AND NON-DIVERS ARE WELCOME SO BRING YOUR FAMILY AND KIDS AND HAVE A NICE DAY OUR WITH NEW ENGLAND DIVE CENTER.

THERE IS A DIVE PLAYGROUND RIGHT IN OUR OWN BACKYARD! BROWNSTONE QUARRY IS LOCATED IN PORTLAND, CT AND IS OPEN TO ALL DIVERS. ITS OPEN FOR YOUR TO GO ANYTIME BUT WE'LL HAVE A COOKOUT THERE ON THE ABOVE DATES AND INTRODUCE DIVERS TO THE NEW SPOT.

Scuba Diving at the Quarry

Brownstone Exploration and Discovery Park contains two freshwater quarries. Currently the north quarry is open to scuba diving activities on a regular basis. The south quarry will be available in the future for more technical and specialized training opportunities as the park grows.

The north quarry is a 27 acre brownstone quarry with beautiful views of 80 to 100-foot brownstone cliffs. Water depths range to 85 feet. An easy walk-in entry is available.

Underwater attractions
Training platforms are installed at various depths. A navigation course has been constructed with surface and underwater markers for practicing compass skills. A number of abandoned vehicles and other items can be found. Several of the abandoned motor vehicles will be removed and other attractions will be submerged for your diving pleasure. We will announce additions as they are added.
